I've been in a wreck. Thanks for answering the phone.

That's the text I received from my son today. He didn't have to work today so the plan was that he would go get lunch for us from the BBQ place and then after lunch he was going to take my car to get the oil changed. I started trying to call Austin about 11:20 to make sure he was up and ready since my lunch is a quick 30 minutes that starts at 11:50. I called and called and called the house phone and I called and called and called his cell phone. Then I thought maybe he had to go in to work after all so I sent a text message. He always texts back but this time he didn't. After I had tried to make contact for about 15-20 minutes I have now gone from aggravated, to almost angry to beginning to get worried!! I didn't have lunch so I needed to go get something. I decided to swing by his work and if his vehicle was in the parking lot then I wouldn't have to go home to check on him. In all this time it NEVER occurred to me that he might not have his phone with him. I don't know why because he is sometimes not the most responsible person. Anyway...as I was leaving the school my phone rang. Finally!!! He had taken his truck to get the oil changed and thought he would be finished in time to pick up lunch and he told me that he had left his phone at home. Oh - that NEVER occurred to me!! I told him I would go get lunch and he would meet me back at school. I went and got lunch, went back to school and proceeded to eat my baked potato because my students were coming back at 12:20. I finished my potato and Austin still was not at the school. I thought - wow - how long does it take to change the oil for crying out loud. For some reason I decided to get my phone out. I don't know why- because remember - Austin's phone was at home!! When I opened it there was a text message which said, "I've been in a wreck. Thanks for answering the phone." Well if you know Austin, you might think he was messing with you because he is known for his humor and mischief and I had gotten on to him for not having his phone earlier but then he has never teased me about something like a wreck. I immediately called him and asked if that were true and sadly it was. He is fine just a sore neck and shoulder and he was pretty shook up. He was north bound and a pickup headed south decided to make a left turn in front of Austin. Austin swerved to the right (because if he had swerved to the left he could have had a head on collision with other traffic). He thought the guy would see him and stop but he never saw Austin at all until impact. So it was not Austin's fault- thank goodness and no one was seriously injured - thank God almighty for that!!! The truck however is a different story. Austin has only had it about 4 months. Hug your kids (whether they are little or grown) extra tight and never fail to let them know how very precious they are to you!!!

Sick babies

I am taking care of sick grandkids today. Britni called yesterday and said she had taken Chandler to the doctor. He has had a nagging cough for a while and he has gotten so congested. The doctor thought it might be pneumonia so she was taking him for an x-ray. On her way, the babysitter called and told her that Rainey was running a fever. Chuck has been out of town all week for his work and that was about all Britni could take. When she started crying I knew I would be calling in to take off of work so I could help her out. You know it all seems to happen when dad is gone. The babies are still asleep so I thought I would catch up on my blogging!!

Also - I have been boo-ed by my friend, Patti over at Nonna's News. Here is how the blogging boo will go. Go to as many friends as you want and tell them they've been "Boo-ED". Have them link back to your blog to pick up their Halloween Treat (picture) and tell them to Boo their friends. (Then put the pic in your side bar so everyone knows that you've already been Boo-ed and to send the pic to someone else. So I am booing everyone that reads this!! Have fun!!

2 million pumpkins...

...or at least that's what the website said. Britni and I took Chandler and Rainey to the Arboretum for some pumpkin pictures. We don't know if there are actually 2 million but there were a lot!!! So I took a lot of pictures! Here are some of my favorites!!

Isn't he a doll!!

I love it when they are having fun together and look at each other and laugh!!

The princess seems to be saying "seriously- are you taking another picture of me?"

We had a good time but it was so crowded because they were having family day or something and pumpkin carving and they were getting ready for 1 or 2 weddings. The flowers there are beautiful and the weather was perfect. And now we have had our trip there and are done with that. :)

Texas State Fair

Britni and Robert had never been to the state fair so we decided to take a little trip on Saturday. Britni, Chuck, Chandler and Rainey along with other family members Ann, Kristie, Dylan, Robert and myself enjoyed a long day at the fair. We were worn out!! I wasn't sure that I would be able to get up this morning and we walked all day!! We had a state fair corn dog along with chicken fried bacon and a fried moon pie!! Yum!! Enjoy the pics.

Chandler and Dylan loved the Crazy Mouse but Britni- as you can tell - did not!! Ann was a real trooper. I was afraid she might have a heart attack!! She also rode the ferris wheel!!

Worn out!!! Yes - Rainey is really asleep!

Weekend

After the big birthday party, we got to bring the babies home with us since their mommy and daddy had to work on Monday and we didn't. While they were here I had to play dress up. I dressed Rainey in one of my dresses that I wore when I was a baby. I thought these pics were so sweet.

Birthday part 2

Rainey had lots of special people sending her birthday wishes. We all had a great time visiting and watching the children playing.

Princess Rainey is 1 year old

It was an all out fit for a princess party with pink everywhere including a book I bought Rainey called Pinkalicious. We had cake, chicken puffs, a vegetable tray and fruits including chocolate dipped strawberries- yes food fit for royalty.

We actually started the day cheering Chandler on at his soccer game and a little later at his basketball game. Then we went home to finish last minute decorations and food preparations and then it was party time.

We had a good time watching Rainey dig into her cake. At first all she wanted to do was pick off the polka dots so Britni finally pulled all of those off and took the fondant icing off and then Rainey went to town. Rainey received many nice gifts including lots of precious clothes, a sock monkey, lots of neat toys including a piano, pink polka dot basketball and cheerleader doll that says 5 different cheers. Lots of family and a few friends were there to help Rainey celebrate and big brother, Chandler helped Rainey open her gifts.

I can't believe we have had this precious baby for a whole year. We love you so much, Rainey. Happy 1st Birthday!!

Reunion

We had a great time at the reunion and yes I survived the plane ride both ways.

We went to check into the hotel but our room was not ready so we walked across the street to eat lunch while we waited. Once the room was ready we checked in and then headed upstairs where Robert's classmates were gathering. These were a couple of his good friends. Robert played basketball with the one on the left and they ran around a lot together.

That night we went to the football game. They had marked off a section for the class and had welcome signs on the rails and fence. It was a good game but unfortunately the home team lost. We had fun cheering and visiting.

The next day they had scheduled a tour of the high school. That was neat listening to all the stories and memories and seeing how it had changed since they graduated. A group of student council students helped with the tour. It was a neat group of kids. The students taught the old timers (LOL) how to do the rocket. It was pretty cute.

This was in the gym where Robert spent most of his time. Several of his classmates told me how awesome he was at basketball.

After the tour Robert and I drove around town to see the house where he grew up and the elementary and junior high schools that he attended. This is the 2nd house Robert lived in. His parents had it built when he was in 6th grade, I believe and they lived there until they retired. However, when they lived there they did not have a rock yard. They had beautiful St. Augustine grass in the front and back. Many of the homes there have rock yards.

The house next door had used black and white rock.

This house down the road had a cactus garden along with the rocks.

After that we went to eat with Robert's good friend and his wife. Chico's tacos are not like the tacos we normally eat, but they were pretty good.

After lunch we went with John and Barbara driving around town to see UTEP, the historic district, downtown and the scenic drive over the mountains.

This shows how close we were to the Mexico border.

That night there was a dinner and dance. They had a slide show of pics from high school and a band played after dinner. It was really nice and a lot of people from his class were there.

These were a couple of friends that Robert played basketball with in high school.

Sunday morning we got up early and headed to the airport. The trip home was a little bumpy in the beginning trying to get over the clouds but we made it home safely. We had not been to El Paso in 22 years so it was a good trip.

Has it been that long???
