Vacation continues - day 10 (Sunday, June 13)

We woke up to homemade cinnamon rolls!! Yum! Lynn is an awesome cook. Nothing better than a cool, cool morning and hot homemade cinnamon rolls. After breakfast we went to church. Dale plays the piano with the praise team at their church. This was a talent we didn't know about. He is very good. After the service they have a time of fellowship complete with snacks. After the fellowship we ran home, changed clothes and headed to the mountains. Dale and Lynn took us to see Mount St. Helens.

The scenery in the mountains was so beautiful and we went up so high!! We visited the Johnston Ridge Observatory Visitor Center.

We watched a short video about the eruption and read a lot of interesting information posted around the visitor center.

We walked a little trail beside the observatory and took lots of pictures. It is amazing! You really cannot fathom the magnitude of the explosion.

before the explosion

after the explosion

Notice the tons of trees on the mountain. You can't imagine from the pic how far away from Mount St. Helens this was and the massive destruction.

It appears that the pic is out of focus but the trees were so thick and it gave an optical illusion.

The visitor center was a neat place to visit. Many people died due to the explosion and some survived. Their stories are definitely emtional.
