Alice at the Arboretum

On Friday, July 19, I went with Britni and the grands to the Arboretum.  There is an exhibition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Flower Village going on until August 31.  There are 4 topiary flower houses covered with greenery and flowers.  Inside the houses are scenes depicting the Adventures of Alice, the White Rabbit, Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter.  There was also a courtyard fenced off with the Queen of Hearts croquet. 

 

Rainey is looking for the rabbit hole!!

 

On Fridays some of the characters are there to greet people. While we were visiting we got to see Alice! At first Rainey wouldn’t take her picture with Alice unless her mommy went with her! 
 

We enjoyed a picnic lunch and fed the birds.  

 

 

 

 

 

And Rainey chased the squirrels. 

 

 

 

 

Then we took more pictures.

 

 

By this time Alice was back from her lunch break and Rainey was ready to take a picture by herself!

It was incredibly hot so we strolled through a small portion of the Arboretum and saw some of the Lewis and Clark exhibit. 

Then headed for the car.  Luckily we went to the car when we did because once we got on the road to head home it started pouring down rain!!!

Once back in Wylie we stopped by Yogurtville for an afternoon treat. 

 

Such a girlie girl!! Rainey loves to show her food!!! 

 

Fun day and I am pooped!!

 

Critterman

The Rita & Truett Smith Public Library in Wylie hosted “Critterman” while I was in town babysitting the grands so Steven, Kylie and I took the Harrison, Rainey and Kinsler to see him while Chandler was at football camp. Critterman brought all sorts of critters and talked to the children about each one. 

 

He brought a tarantula.  Eek!!  I was glad when he put that thing back in its cage!!

He also brought a prairie dog, a opossum, and a snake!  Oh my!!

The alligator and the tortoise were the last 2 critters. 

 

At the end, he let the children come back and feel the tortoise shell. 

 

 

He was pretty interesting and quite knowledgeable about his critters. 

Afterwards, Rainey wanted to get some new library books and she said she needed to get some books about nature.  J  The library has a summer reading program and she and Kinsler had finished their lists so they were able to turn in their lists and for their accomplishments they each received a free book, a reading certificate, a coupon for free food at a local restaurant and got to enter their names in a drawing for a prize.
