Taylor Tales: Camp Granna 2014

Final day of camp and it was a buzz of activity. After breakfast, the kids drug their cardboard boxes out in the yard and got the dad's to working on the drive-in movie cars.

After cutting and shaping the cars, they took a break for some patriotic snacks. We had red, white and blue parfaits of blueberries, Whip Cream and strawberries and Sprite poured over red and blue star shaped ice cubes.

Then back to work painting the cars.

I think they turned out pretty cute!!

We had lunch and then nap time. Britni made our snack for after nap time - yummy and pretty patriotic strawberries.

The kids swam in the afternoon and then we started getting things set up for the drive in movie.

We grilled hamburgers for dinner and Steven grilled some pineapple. So good!!! After dinner we blasted off some water bottle rockets.

One landed in the top of a huge tree!!

Then we had a little fireworks show before the drive-in.

Olsen went nuts barking and biting at each one they set off. At one point he grabbed one and took off running with it. Crazy!!

The customers then got their popcorn and chose some movie candy and drinks and headed to the back yard for the movie.

The drive-in movie feature for the evening was The Legend of Sarila. It was a really good movie about three young Inuits who set off in search of a promised land to save their clan from starvation after all the animals in the area suddenly disappear, leaving the hunters empty-handed and the community on the brink of famine. The brave Markussi realizes that drastic measures are required. He and a couple of friends defy the dishonest clan shaman Kiliq, and go out in search of the legendary land of Sarila, which is said to be rich in fish, game and fruit. They are pursued by the jealous shaman and confronted with numerous dangers. The trio must restore the natural balance of the environment in order to save their people. It was a very good little movie and it brought Camp Granna full circle with a tale about Inuit Indians.

Another camp complete. We had lots of fun and I sure hope my sweet grandbabies had a good time and will have lots of memories from their time a Camp Granna 2014.

Today we are going fishing!! Grandad helped cut the fish in preparation for Fishing Day. I decided to make wooden fish for Chandler and Rainey to catch with a hook and then they could weigh them and measure them. I made paper fish with magnets for Harrison and Kinsler to catch with a paper clip and then I made some stuffed fish for Hadley to play with.

Sure hope the fish are biting!!

About the time we were ready to go fishing it started raining so I set up the "lake" and boats on the back porch. I had made some fishing poles using wooden dowels and yarn.

Man overboard!!

Maybe Jesus will tell these two to cast their lines on the other side of the boat!

Kit Kat wanted some of that tuna!!

After fishing, the kids ran around in the rain and Kinsler tried to get in the pool.

We didn't get the limbo done on Luau Day so we did some limbo after they caught some fish.

Went inside for snacks and magic tricks/science experiments

We put pencils through a baggie of water without making it leak.

Chandler stuck a needle in a balloon without making it pop.

We made this egg go through the narrow neck of the jar.

Since they caught lots of fish, we had fish sticks and mac and cheese for lunch. Had planned to watch Free Willy, but couldn't get it to work so Chandler and Rainey watched The Little Giants for their rest time movie. These movies were all of Austin's favorites when he was little so it was fun watching them again with the grandkids.

I read Swimmy by Leo Lionni to Harrison before his nap since it was Fishing Day.

I had intended to get cars cut out on Monday in preparation for the drive-in movie on Friday. We didn't get that done so I decided to put it off until Friday and put the dad's in charge. Therefore I tried to move some Friday activities to Thursday so they would have plenty of time to make the cars and have lots of free time to swim before the movie. One of the Friday activities that we moved had to do with the book, Elmer by David McKee. I read the book to them while they were having snacks.

Then I had them color their own Elmer, the Elephant.

Once they finished coloring their Elmer, I gave them their own Elmer that I had sewn for them.

I made each one different. Chandler's was made with maroon Aggie print fabric with some gray accents.

Rainey's was made with pink Aggie print fabric with purple accents. Her two favorite colors are pink and purple!

Kinsler's was made with left over sock monkey fabric that we used to make his nursery bedding.

Harrison's was made with navy fabric leftover from his nursery bed skirt and curtains with some red plaid accents.

Hadley's was made with leftover fabric that we used to make her nursery bedding.

It was fun making their elephants and they seemed to like them. Kinsler slept with his during nap time and bedtime and Rainey carried hers around and slept with it. Chandler is a little old for stuffed animals but I wanted to make him one anyway. Harrison played with his and hopefully Hadley will like hers when she is older.

Since it was Fishing Day, we decided to go to The Fish Fry for dinner. I had told Steven last year that we would take him for his birthday and we had not gone yet and it is almost his birthday again so we needed to get that done!! It was good as always and as always I was stuffed when we left!!

They put us in a room by ourselves so the little boys were playing around the table and I caught them loving on each other. So sweet!!

After we got home from dinner, the kids did the Elephant Walk.

These 2 peas in a pod are really interested in what is going on!!!

They love this one we call Ice Treasures where I freeze some little trinkets, coins, whatever in a pie pan of water and then they use a hammer and screwdriver to chisel them out.
