On September 18, 2011 we had the honor of witnessing the baptism of our grandson. Chandler gave his heart to Jesus and that sure made this Granna proud.

Chandler was blessed with the best parents who have tried to train him up in the way he should go. Chuck and Britni were blessed with this precious little boy 8 years ago and he has truly been a joy!!!

Harrison also witnessed cousin Chandler's baptism. Harrison is wearing little overalls that belonged to Chandler when he was a baby!!

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Family Reunion 2011

It is Fall and one of the things I love about Fall is our family reunion. During late October or early November we have the Rainey Reunion which is my Dad's side of the family. This year was sparse as for the number of family members in attendance. If it weren't for my brothers and sisters and my Uncle Buck's family - there wouldn't have been a reunion. My grandparents were A.C. and Beulah Rainey and their children were A. C., Claude Lionel, Clarence Buckner, Wilson Deon, Billie Jim, John Doc, Edna Jo, Doris Lynn and Glenna Kathleen. There are only 2 left Buck and Doris, as we just lost Uncle John at the end of October. I have loved growing up in this family. Each of my aunts and uncles had there own unique personalities and special qualities.

The only child of A. C. and Beulah that was in attendance was Uncle Buck who is 93. Wow!! I don't know if I will make it that long. I'm tired already!! Uncle Buck and his wife Aunt Audrey Faye who will turn 90 this week had 5 children.

Attending the reunion were four of their five children and their spouses - Benton and Iris, Nelda and David, Gary and Lisa, Rodney and Shannon; six of their 11 grandchildren -Katlin, Gage, Jason and wife, Lacey, Tim, Jackson and Addison; and 1 of their 7 great-grandchildren - Emma who is 3 months.

We lost our dad in 1999 and our mother in 1988 but in attendance at the reunion were 4 of their 5 children and spouses - Ann and Hugh, Barbara and Tim, Steve and Tina, Lisa and Robert; 3 of their 10 grandchildren and their spouses - Britni and Chuck, Kylie and Steven, Lindsay and Jeremy; and 4 of their 12 great-grandchildren - Dylan, Chandler, Rainey and Harrison.

The only other people in attendance was a cousin, Claudette and her husband, Kenneth. Even though our family is dwindling we always have a great time together. The little ones and sometimes the big ones always play football or chase or play with Legos while the rest of us visit and catch up.

After the reunion we went to my sister-in-law and brother's house. Britni is now selling Premiere Jewlery and was doing a show for Tina and someof her friends and some family. I had to get some pictures during her presentation with sister, Kylie helping.

Rainey found a pal in Uncle Steve. He took her out to see his horses and then they mixed up some homemade hot chocolate.

So thankful for my family!!

Pee Wee Football - Fall 2011

Chandler played Pee Wee football in the fall 2011 for the first time. They are so cute in their little football gear. Some of the parents held up a run through sign and true to Pee Wee style - the first few boys trying to break through fell all over each other. The coaches laughing in the background crack me up. The boys were precious!! Our little player is #30 and was not one of the ones rolling around on the ground tangled up in the run through sign. :)

In many of the games Chandler was the kicker. He was so cute however I didn't get a picture of the actual kick because I was standing too close to the field and I got in trouble. I was told that I needed to move back - right about the time he kicked the ball.

Chandler's best friend was on a different team. Here they are "blocking" each other.

Weekend visitors

Last weekend Harrison came with his parents, Kylie and Steven for a visit. This was the first time Harrsion had been to our house. He was 5 weeks old. On Friday evening we went to the Fish Fry with my brother and sisters and their families.

On this side of the table is my niece-in-law, Kristie, my great-nephew, Dylan and my nephews, Murray and Wesley and Kylie and Steven are at the end of the table.

I always enjoy time with my family and we love the Fish Fry. We have been going for over 30 years!!

Steven had to go back home for a school function on Saturday but Kylie and Harrsion got to stay for a couple of days so needless to say - I was absolutely worthless!! I held Harrsion as much as possible!!!

El Campo Trip

While the grands' parents were on vacation, we took Chandler and Rainey to El Campo for a few days to visit Mimi. Chandler and Rainey played and played with all the toys and played outside and watched TV.

One day we went to the Aquatic Center. They loved the whirlpool/tornado area that had a continuous current that would force you around in a circle.

Chandler also liked the big slide . . .

and they both liked the lily pads.

The next day we went to the $1 movie and watched Hop. It was a pretty cute movie.

We all had a great time.

On August 4th our baby boy turned 23!! He didn't get to come home for his birthday because of his work schedule but he came home later to meet baby Harrison.

Britni wanted to go to Babe's Chicken for her birthday dinner but nephew, Harrison had other plans and decided it would be his birthday too!! Since we didn't get to go on her birthday we went the next night. Chuck and Chandler instigated the waitresses to sing happy birthday and had Britni do the chicken dance while they sang. She was a good sport and Chandler thought it was so funny. Rainey - however didn't like it at all.

One morning Rainey wanted me to do her hair in pigtails. I didn't know if it would work or if I could get a half way straight part since she is so wiggly!! She loved those pigtails! LOL

Class Reunion

Last Saturday I attended a class reunion in my hometown. The class of 1978 invited the class of 1977 (my class) and the class of 1979 to join them for a reunion.

Afterwards I drove around town and took a few pics around the square. :)

It was fun seeing old friends and catching up. It had been too long!!

My brother and sisters and our spouses gathered recently at my sister's home for "dinner and a movie". My nephew wanted to cook for us and he made some delicious chicken enchiladas!!

Catching up!

Okay - I think I am done with the catch up posts!! We did have some other important happenings this summer but I didn't get pictures.

On June 28th - Robert and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary.
On June 30th I celebrated another birthday.
July 3rd Robert and I went to Charleston (Texas) to a 4th of July party at the church where my brothers and their wives attend. We went with my brother, Steve and his wife, Tina. We enjoyed hamburgers and homemade ice cream and then a fireworks show. It was fun!!

And now we are awaiting the arrival of our newest grandbaby. I had to get caught up on all these posts before that time and then we will have the other two grands again when their parents take a little vacation - so lots more pics to come of the 3 grands!!

Baby Shower

On Sunday afternoon, June 26th we gathered for the baby shower. It was decorated really cute and the food was really good.

Everyone was given a "diaper" when they came to the shower. After everyone got there Britni had them open their diaper. One of them got a surprise!! Tina had the surprise -a dirty diaper. LOL She also made the punch and homemade mints. So yummy!

Baby Shower Prep

Britni, my sisters - Ann and Barbara, my sister-in-law and her daughter - Tina and Lindsay and my nieces, Kristie and Brittany were hosting a baby shower for Steven, Kylie and Harrison on Sunday afternoon. On Saturday evening, June 25th- and into the night - we worked on preparations for the shower. Britni is a good little organizer and she has the grandest ideas! She had bought a book on cake balls/pops and decided that is what she wanted to do for the shower. So . . . we were up late getting those silly things decorated. I will probably never do them again but they were really good!

In case you can't tell - these are not pigs - they are babies with pacifers!! :)

We also did baby bottles and then just some brightly colored cake balls.

We did have fun with a lot of laughs before we got done - which was way after midnight!!

Happy Birthday to my sweet husband - today - July 14!!

He put up a ceiling fan in our sunroom, hung a chandelier in the blue room and then we went to run some errands. We had to take a water sample from the pool to the pool place and to Lowe's to order tile for our kitchen!! Yea! I took him to eat at El Chico's for his birthday.

I can't believe Camp Granna has come and gone for another year. I am always tired by the time they leave but as they drive down the driveway I get a tug on my heart strings. Immediately it is so quiet - too quiet and I am missing them already!!

Camp Granna 2011 - Day 5

On day 5, June 24th - Cars 2 was coming out at the movie theater and we were going!! Chandler was so ready to see the movie and we were going to see it in 3D!!

We had brought some movie candy with us and we bought popcorn and drinks. The kids loved the movie and the snacks. Chandler said, "Thank you, Granna for taking us to see Cars 2."

Afterwards the cousins came over again to swim. This time we had 3 more!! We lined them up in order of age - Jacob, Alli, Audrey, Addi and Chandler. Rainey was being shy and wouldn't get in the picture.

Karol Ann, Barbara, Tim and I had a nice visit while the cousins played together. It was great getting to see them all even though the visit was too short!!

Camp Granna 2011 - Day 4

June 23 - day 4 Grandad had this set of do-dads that Chandler loves. He constructed all sorts of shapes.

For lunch we had a picnic. Pardon the no makeup and hairdo!! Yikes!

Grandad wouldn't join us. He was too busy playing with his new toy. :)

He has also been working on this! Because it had been so dry the garden hasn't produced a lot but we have been getting okra, jalepenos, a few bell peppers, some tomatoes, eggplant and purple hul peas! I always love the bright colors of the vegetables!!

And he has been working on this. We bought this swing at Canton over 15 years ago and it had really weathered so Robert took it apart, sanded and restained each peice and then put it back together. It is so shiny that I have to feel it to make sure it is not still wet. :)

That evening we made Tin Can Ice Cream!

Then we set up the tent and slept outside!! It was HOT!! We got the tent set up and got on our sleeping bags and all settled and Chandler said, "I'm about to give up." (Because of the heat.) There was no breeze at all! I thought - oh no you can't!! Rainey wanted to sleep outside. We finally went to sleep or maybe it was just a heat-induced coma!!! I woke up at 3 a.m. and it had cooled down. I woke up at 5 a.m. and it was warming back up. On Friday we were planning to go to the movie so at 6 a.m. Chandler woke me up and said, "Granna, did you get the tickets yet?" LOL

At that time we all went in the house. Chandler got on the couch and Rainey and I went upstairs and got in bed!

Camp Granna 2011 - Day 3

We made up for it on Day 3 - June 22! The grands and I headed to the Dairy Museum.

After the Dairy Museum we went to eat pizza with my sister, Barbara and brother-in-law, Tim . . .

Camp Granna 2011 - Day 2

On day 2, June 21, we took an unexpected trip to Arkansas.

Our friend's mother passed away so we went to the visitation which was in Arkansas. The kids were really good. They watched movies while in the car. We tried to find a good place to eat on the way home but most of our choices were closed. There was a Dairy Queen but it was not in the same class as our Dairy Queen!!

Camp Granna 2011 - Day 1

Yea - it is finally officially Camp Granna!! On day 1 - June 20th - we began building a bird feeder.

I had purchased a little precut bird feeder from Lowe's. I thought it would be easy for the kids to do by themselves with minimal help. They loved putting it together.

Check out that plastic hammer that Rainey wanted to use and the concentration on Chandler's face!!

Then I got out all my paints and let them choose their colors and paint it any way they wanted. I didn't do any touch ups or smooth out the excess paint that Rainey added. This was strictly their project. :)

Chandler got creative with the stripes. Rainey's favorite colors are pink and purple so she wanted a lot of those colors everywhere.

This is the final product. Chandler painted underneath the roof maroon and each side of the middle block a different color. Rainey painted the bottom of the feeder part pink and each edge a different color so it is definitely a colorful bird feeder. Hopefully it is not too bright that it scares the birds away. :)

After all that hard work they needed a snack. Rainey loves watermelon and as you can see it is all gone but she wasn't stopping until she finished - juice an all.

After swimming and dinner that evening . . .

we had smores. Yummy!!

Day 1 - Success!!

Father's Day

Since I was already in Wylie, Robert came down for the weekend to celebrate Father's Day.

We went to church on Sunday morning and then enjoyed an amazing lunch prepared by Chuck and Britni - steaks on the grill, stuffed jalepenos, corn on the cob, baked bean, watermelon and I can't remember what else but we were all stuffed by the end of the meal!!

Trevor and his family came over in the afternoon to visit and the kids had a great time playing together.

We sure missed not having Austin home to celebrate Father's Day but he was stuck out west working.

The 2nd week of June I spent the with the grands at their house because Britni had a week long training and Steven was out of town so Kylie wanted to make sure I wasn't too far away. While I was there we had a couple of pre-Camp Granna events. I had several errands to run and I told them we would go to Yogurtville when I was done if they were really good. After a bit of a rocky start and me turning the car around to head back to their house things went pretty smoothly! :)

Rainey's creation - she really likes her fruit but then she saw brother put some m&m's and marshmallows in his so she thought she needed some as well!!

That is good stuff!!

Rainey was worn out after a long day so she got to take a nap. When I went in to check on her she had this big stuffed dog on top of her and she was conked out!!

The next day we went to see some lions and tigers and leopards - oh my!!

We went to the In-sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center. They rescue big cats that people have had as pets and no longer want them or can no longer take care of them or don't take care of them.

They were huge!! These big cats will be at this rescue facility until they die. They can't be released into the wild because they were never in the wild.

It was a really hot day and most of the big cats were sleeping and I obviously can't take very good pics through the chain link fence!! There were tons more that I didn't get pictures of but it was a very interesting place to visit.

Britni had a couple of training days at the end of the week so on my way home from Lubbock I stopped by and picked up Chandler and Rainey. We enjoyed time in the pool.

And we enjoyed some cupcakes!!

Chandler is a pretty good little frosting spreader. Rainey wanted pink. I tried to tell her I only had chocolate and that upset her. Not that she doesn't like chocolate - she just likes everything pink!! She was pretty upset with me so I pulled out a can of white frosting and added a little bit of red food coloring to make her some pink frosting. Then she was a happy girl again. She said, "I told you you had pink!" Silly girl!!

Going West!

As soon as the shower was over I headed to Lubbock to see my boy!!

It was a nice relaxing few days. Austin had to work part of the time so I would pick him up every day for lunch. We ate at several good places including the Rib Crib which was very good and cheap as well!! We also went to a Thai food place that he likes. I really like Chinese so I wasn't afraid to try Thai and it was really good too!!

And of course we went to Raising Canes! As a matter of fact - I went twice while I was in Lubbock!!! We went on the day that Canes opened their 100th store and because I am a Caniac I received a free meal and they gave us coupons for later for buy one get one free meals!!

Austin and I watched some Mavericks' and Ranger games together and went to see a movie one afternoon. While he was working I cruised the mall and a couple of thrift shops. And I drove around and took a few pictures.

This is where Austin is working! He looks so handsome in his boots and jeans. :)

The time is always too short and I am not ready when it is time to leave. It is just so far away!!

On the way home a took a few pictures of some interesting places. I thought this was a cute office in some tiny town I passed through.

At one point the thermometer in my Tahoe said 108 degrees outside and I saw this cow under the "shade tree". Really?? Just how much relief is she getting under that tree??

After the party we went back to Britni's. Chandler and Rainey played outside and they found tons of little bitty frogs in the yard. They got a big bucket and put about 50 frogs in it with some grass and water. Rainey got upset when it was time to let them go!!!

Wow - it has been a month since I have written a post!! I have a lot to post but just haven't had the time. I am going to go in the order that the events happened. :) The grands - Chandler and Rainey - were here for Easter along with their parents, Chuck and Britni and their Aunt KyKy and Uncle Steven. (They so won't appreciate that statement.) LOL

Saturday morning Grandad made his famous pancakes - with a little help from Rainey and Kylie. :)

Later we colored and filled eggs and then the girls and I hid them. Chandler and Rainey had fun finding all of them. However a few days later I spied one they missed on a tree branch.

My dad made the Easter eggs/rabbit for me several years ago. I haven't put them out in several years but this year I decided to completely redo them and decorate the porch.

The kids wanted to swim but the water was way too cold!!! However it was not too cold for Olsen!

While Robert was cleaning out the leaf basket he found another critter. It was a tiny turtle that was bright green with red markings. Chandler held it but Rainey wanted no part in the touching of the turtle.

On Sunday we attended church. Britni wanted to get pics of her family afterward but as you can tell Chandler was not in the mood!!

Parents' Weekend in Aggieland

Yes - my kids already graduated from A&M but Britni and I like to go during Parents' Weekend which is the middle of April every year. They have Aggie Moms Boutique where you can find anything Aggie you can imagine. We get new Aggie Christmas ornaments every year and try to find something unique and this year did not disappoint.

We always go to our favorite places to eat in College Station. We always make it for breakfast at Kolache Rolf's. They have awesome kolache's made from fresh mouth watering bread!! We went to other favorites including the Chicken Oil Company, Freebirds and Raising Cane's - of course. As you can see we took a guest this year. Britni's class sent out Flat Stanley to visit so we took him to College Station with us.

Another of our favorite's is Koppe Bridge. They make fabulous hamburgers!!

While in town we visited the Children's Center where Britni and Kylie worked when they were in school. Flat Stanley really enjoyed the visit.

We enjoyed watching the Maroon and White game on Saturday afternoon.

We had a great time and brought home lots of Aggie gear!!

On Tuesday evening we headed out after school to see our grandson, Chandler perform in his little 2nd grade music program.

The program was about bugs and it was really cute!! All the students did a super job.

Chandler did a great job saying his part!! He got up to the microphone and belted his part out loud and clear!!

Afterwards we had him do a re-enactment so we could get more pictures.

Sister had to get in on the act as well. LOL

Special guests for the program were Uncle Steven and Aunt KyKy.

And Grandad and Granna.

Chandler's other grandparents, Mark and Becky; great-grandmother, Peggy and Aunt Katie also attended but I didn't get any pictures of them nor his mom and dad.

"Basket" Show

This past weekend Britni, Chandler and Rainey were here for a visit. Actually Britni had 2 major projects to work on so I entertained while she worked. On Saturday was the annual Project Show which Rainey kept calling the "basket" show. I took the kids so Britni would have the house all to herself and could get some work done without interruptions! Robert was the announcer at the show.

They had a petting zoo for the little ones and that is where Rainey wanted to stay! She and Chandler played with baby goats, a chicken, some puppies and some guinea pigs which Rainey usually calls "skinny" pigs. However this brown one - she kept calling a squirrel.

At the show several tractors and ATV's were on display. This is where Chandler wanted to stay!!

They have a "suck bucket" contest where they let the little ones feed bottles calves.

Then each child gets a trophy. They thought that was pretty cool.

They also got a coupon for ice cream at the Dairy Queen. Of course we had to go cash in. Rainey took her trophy into the Dairy Queen but Chandler left his in the car. He said he didn't want his to get stolen. LOL

After the show the kids played outside. When Grandad got home he started mowing the yard. Rainey "helped" mow while Chandler rode his little tractor around and picked up sticks. Britni and I went out to check on them and a baby rabbit ran across the yard and under the fence where the pool is located. Britni chased it down and caught it. Chandler and Rainey were so excited!!

Rainey cried when they let it go. :(

We decided to have breakfast for dinner that evening and boy did I have some great help mixing up the biscuit dough!!

We had a great weekend and I sure did hate to see them go!!

Rainey's 1st Haircut

When the grandkids were here for spring break, Britni wanted me to take Rainey to get her hair trimmed since she has no time due to teaching, grad school, etc. I asked if she was sure she wanted me to do it since this would be her first haircut ever. She assured me it would be fine but she didn't want more than an inch cut off. So . . . here is the before.

She was really good while getting her hair cut - just a bit wiggly. She is not one to sit still for very long!!

Spring Break has come and gone!!

Of course time off always passes so quickly and even more so when you are busy. Robert went to visit his mother for a few days. I spent the first couple of days with my girls. We did some shopping. Found some cute baby clothes of course. We worked on packing Kylie and Steven's apartment for the move toward the end of week.

On Sunday I brought Chandler and Rainey home with me for a few days. Got these beautiful flowers from my little granddaughter when they were playing outside. We planned on spending a lot of time outside but it was pretty cool on Monday and Tuesday so we couldn't stay out for very long.

Austin came home on Monday and Chandler and Rainey love it when Austin is here and they really like playing outside with Austin's dog-Olsen.

Chandler and Rainey had not been here since Christmas so they had fun dragging out ALL the toys. They also watched some movies and some of their favorite TV shows. And we went to the Dairy Queen a couple of times.

I tried to get some new pictures of the kids but Rainey was not really in the mood for a photo session!!

Robert came back on Wednesday and stopped by and picked up Austin's new bedroom furniture. I really like it and will post pictures of his room when I get it all together. Then we took Chandler and Rainey back on Wednesday evening and started moving Steven and Kylie to their new place. We moved stuff all day Thursday and came home late Thursday night. On Friday I did a little shopping. Since I have lost some weight everything is too big so I tried to find some school clothes that fit and I did find a few things and it was all on sale!! I then picked up the mattress set for the new furniture and headed home. Friday night we enjoyed time with my sisters and their husbands, my brother and his wife while eating fish at White Oak. Today Robert and Austin have puttered around the yard and I have done a little laundry and cooked a couple of meals but other than that I have been pretty useless. Oh well . . . just enjoying my last day!!

This break has been a long time coming!! Not that I have anything exciting planned but just having that little bit of time to relax and do whatever will be nice!! I have already been somewhat productive. I ordered bedroom furniture for Austin's room. He has never had nice bedroom furniture. At one time he had a bunk bed which was okay and then he went to a futon which is not the most comfortable thing!! Then he had an old bed I got from my aunt and uncle when they went to the assisted living place. Even though we bought new matresses it is still rickety!! Yes - I know he is away at college but I still want some nice furniture in his room for when he comes home to visit!! Need to shop for a mattress set today.

I then dropped off some things at the Goodwill store and then headed to see my girls. Both girls' husbands were headed to their moms' for the weekend so it is girls' weekend here. Britni, Kylie and I will do some shopping today. Kylie and Steven will me moving this next week to a different place so Britni and I will be helping to pack up the apartment.

Then I will take the little grands home with me for a few days so their mommy can work on a major project for her grad class. We have been to visit them but I don't think they have been at our house since Christmas!!

Austin will be coming in soon. Can't wait!! Robert went to visit his mother for a few days. We will all gather back together at the end of the weekend to get Kylie and Steven moved into their new place.

Our precious grandson, Chandler - celebrated his 8th birthday last week. It is so hard to believe that we have loved that sweet boy for 8 years!!! This past weekend we went down to help him celebrate.

I had bought Chandler some clothes and of course that is no fun so I took him to Target Friday evening and let him pick something fun for his birthday. He chose Legos!! He loves Legos. He and Uncle Steven put them together as soon as we got home. :)

The wild, wild west!!

Had a nice little weekend visit with Austin.

Robert and I left Thursday after school. We decided at the last minute to go ahead and leave on Thursday instead of Friday morning so I searched around for a cheap hotel room for the night. I had already booked a room for Friday and Saturday night. I found a cheap room in Slaton and we didn't get there until about 1 a.m. We got up Friday morning and ran to Target and Walmart and then went to the hotel in Lubbock to see if we could check in early. Hotels.com had booked 2 rooms for 2 nights instead of 1 room for 2 nights so we had to hassle with them about canceling the other room. They said I didn't have a room reserved. Whatever! The hotel personnel in Lubbock were extremely helpful in trying to get that situated and told us to make sure that hotels.com doesn't try to charge us again for that room.

Austin had class on Friday so after that we picked him up at his house and headed to eat lunch. And you do know where we went!!! That's right - my very, very favorite - Raising Cane's!!! Robert and I have been on a diet and just finished the cycle before we went on the trip so I am telling you - that Cane's chicken was amazing!!!

After that we went to the mall to exchange a shirt I had bought for Austin that didn't fit. We exchanged it for 2 others that did fit. :)

Then we went back to the hotel to hang out for a while. Robert's cousin lives near Lubbock so he called her to see if we could visit. She and her son were actually in Lubbock so they came to the hotel. It was nice to see Jerrilyn and her son, David. I didn't get any pictures though.

After they left we watched a little TV and then went to eat dinner at the China Star Buffet. It is so good!!! I tried 3 different kinds of chicken - one with jalapenos that so delish!! Actually all 3 were amazing!! We then went back to the hotel and Austin headed home for the night.

On Saturday morning we went to the Bodies Human exhibit at the mall.

It's an inside look at the human body and is designed to show how the choices we make affect our overall health." - (from http://www.bodieshuman.com/home.html) We had seen this exhibit on a grander scale in Houston when Kylie was in nursing school. It is pretty amazing. We thought it would be interesting for Austin since he is taking an anatomy class.

Afterwards we went to Olive Garden.

I know you are thinking that we are ruining the progress we have made on the diet!! But it was really good!!

Next stop - Cavender's.

The we took Austin to get him some jeans. He always needs jeans but he never lets me buy him any!! We found some at Cavender's plus a couple of shirts. Afterwords Austin went to take his Olive Garden leftovers to his house and run some errands and Robert took a nap. Britni and I had hit a thrift shop when we were there this summer so I decided to check it out again. I actually went to the thrift shop and a goodwill store and found a couple of things to decorate with. Then I went back to the hotel. Austin came back over and watched a movie on his computer and we played on our cell phones and watched TV.
Later Austin and I ran to get him a few groceries. Austin works at a place called Steak Express. They use Nolan Ryan's beef! It is really good.

After grocery shopping we decided to get dinner from there since we had never eaten there before. Austin placed the order and we went to pick it up. We got a family meal which included beef tips, grilled chicken breasts, baked potato, salad and chocolate chip cookies. The beef tips just melt in your mouth and the grilled chicken was so good!!! Now I normally don't like chocolate chip cookies unless they are homemade but these were amazing!! I put one in the microwave for about 15 seconds and it was wonderful!!! I also ate one the next day for breakfast and that evening when we got home from Lubbock!!!

We are back home now and eating healthy again! :) We had a great time with Austin!!! It just never seems long enough. I didn't cry this time when we left but when we got to Dallas I really had to fight the tears. It is sooooo far out there and I just hate it when Austin drives it by himself!!! In just a few weeks hopefully he will get to come home for spring break and maybe some of his friends will be coming home too so he won't have to make the trip alone!!

Funky Junk Interior Challenge

I happened upon a neat blog site if you like antiques, craft, junked turned treasures, etc. called Funky Junk Interiors. I have entered at challenge on this site that I think might be fun. I used the basketball/old door night stand that my brother made for me that I posted about here.

Let me explain this unique piece of furniture. It is made from an old door and an old basketball rim. I lived on a farm and the basketball goal was hanging above the door of one of the barns. That is where we played basketball since we didn't have the portable goals and such that we have now. Anyway we think my daddy actually made the rim. Some time after he died we were at the farmhouse going through things and I decided that I wanted the goal. I played basketball in high school and my team won the state championship my senior year so I thought I deserved it. :) So my brother worked and got the goal off of the barn. I wanted to make a night stand using the rim for Austin's room. My brother said he could build a post to attach it to. At some point while he was working on the post he found the old door (backboard) and thought it would be a neat addition to the night stand. I added the cork board and the glass top and I think it turned out really neat. A lot of memory behind it and my brother's work is really special.

I love snow pictures and I can't believe our snow has lasted all week!!

The snowflakes were huge!!!

When Robert let Olsen out of the pen on Monday morning there was a cat on our back porch. Well . . . Olsen treed the cat and it stayed there ALL day - from about 8 in the morning until after dark. I was really feeling bad for the cat because I was afraid it couldn't get down. Shortly after we put Olsen in the pen for the night - I heard meowing at our front door!! He was obviously afraid to come down until Olsen was no longer a threat!

And boy did he want that cat to come down!!!

I was headed out to the deck to take pics and this is what I found in the sunroom. Rainey loves to play with my Coca Cola bears and she always lines them up. This is how she left them when they went home after Christmas.

I got this hunk of ice out of Olsen's water bucket and sent a picture to Austin. He said it's good to know Olsen has been getting some water. :) Austin thinks I don't take care of Olsen!!

On Friday, January 7 we watched the Cotton Bowl at Britni and Chuck's. The outcome wasn't very good but the food and company were awesome!!

My brothers and sisters usually get together sometime after Christmas so there is no conflict with anybody's schedule, etc. So on January 1 the family came to our house to party!! This year it was all about food. :) My sister, Ann, suggested that we all bring a dish that we had never made before but wanted to try. She had put together a cookbook with all our favorite recipes including those that came from our mother's kitchen so we were going to decide on some new dishes to add to the cookbook! We had a little Cajun including gumbo . . .

as well as a new sausage/cream cheese dip.

My brother got a new rotisserie for Christmas so he made some "rotisserized" roast.

Britni tried a new recipe of new potatoes with a little sour cream mixture and bacon on top that was really good!!

Of course we had plenty of desserts including chocolate dumplings, red velvet cake, white chocolate covered popcorn, these yummy macaroons and I can't remember what else but I wish I had some of all of it right now!!

Then in case none of the new recipes were worth eating, we made some reliables and of course we had black eyed peas and cabbage to start the year off right!

The press was there to capture all the memories being made.

Santa Claus came to our house!!

Chandler's school had a little store for the students to purchase gifts for their family. Chandler made his purchases and then told his mom that he needed some construction paper to wrap Grandad's present. She tried to get him to wait until they got home and use wrapping paper but he insisted on using the construction paper.

Kylie and Steven were at his parents for Christmas and they came to our house later in the week. Rainey had to help Aunt Ky Ky open her gifts.

After eating all of that food during the holidays it was back to fitness training for Uncle Austin and Rainey. :)

Belated Christmas Happenings - part 2

It is tradition that we have sausage balls and monkey bread from Christmas Day breakfast. Little miss Rainey LOVES to help in the kitchen so she helped make sausage balls this year. :)

I found some little Christmas things for the kids to color and a Christmas puzzle to help keep them busy while they waited for Santa. You know - that wait is almost unbearable!!

Since the weather was nice during the holidays the kids spent a lot of time outside - in the hammock and riding the tractor.

Had to sample the cookies for Santa . . .

and put out some reindeer food!!

Grandad read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" . . .

and Mommy read the Christmas story from the bible (well, she read the bible story from her cell phone). Technology!!

Time to head to bed and go to sleep so Santa can come!!

I am so behind in posting but I decided to go ahead and chronicle it all in order. So here goes!! We had our yearly visit to the North Pole of Texas to ride the train. The kids had fun.

Chandler was just the little man - waiting patiently!! Rainey - not so patient!! In her defense - we did have to wait in line for about an hour.

Rainey would not talk to Mrs. Claus at the beginning but after we rode the train she inched up to her and got up in her lap.

Another big thing was her actually getting close to Santa in his workshop. She actually let him touch her!!

Thanksgiving

Well . . .Thanksgiving break came and went rather quickly. Austin was here for a few days and his dad takes full advantage of the extra help when he is here.

Since Kylie had to work before and after Thanksgiving we gathered at Britni's so Kylie wouldn't have to spend most of her time on the road. But that meant I had to gather up everything and haul it to Britni's. I spent Wednesday baking pies. . .

and sugar pies (everybody's favorite). The kids fight over these and they do not share - even with their spouses or their own children!! I have to divide them up and put them in separate baggies for each child!!

On Wednesday evening we had dinner together. Steven and Kylie had a Halloween kit left over and Steven, Chandler and Rainey got to work on getting the haunted house put together.

On Thursday we had our turkey and dressing and then the boys played video games and Rainey watched movies. The rest of us relaxed and waited for the Aggie vs tu game! And yes - the Aggies BTHO tu 24-17. Whoop!!

We recently had a family reunion - my dad's side -descendants of Beulah and Andie. There are only a few of my dad's siblings left but it is great getting to visit with them.

A week or so later, Britni had everyone over for hot dogs. However we were watching the Aggies BTHO baylor so I didn't get very many pictures!

Earlier in the day Britni, Rainey and I did some shopping. Rainey found this huge sutffed dog at Ikea and she latched onto him. I thought she would carry him around and then we could put him back as we were leaving, but no - she held onto him and laid her head on him and named him and it broke her heart when we told her he wanted to stay at the store. Well . . .he obviuosly didn't have to stay at the store. She loves that dog!! :)

Britni, Chuck and the kids were here for the weekend. There are tons of leaves all over the yard and Chandler and Rainey had a blast playing in them.

Chandler built a race track and rode that tractor around until the battery died!!

One more school day and then good times with the family with much to be thankful for!!

It is always a special time when the kids and grandkids are home. Britni, Chuck, Chandler and Rainey were home for the weekend. We had bought Chandler a little tractor when he was younger and the battery went completely dead! We finally found a new battery so I couldn't wait for the grands to get here and try it out. Rainey would drive a few feet and get so tickled - drive a few more feet and giggle! It was pretty funny.

We went to church on Sunday and Rainey wore the cutest little sweater dress and tights so I had to get some pictures!!

And then Chandler actually cooperated and let me take a few of him and sister!!

Good times!!

Rainey's Party

We attended Rainey's birthday party this weekend and had a great time watching her open presents, blow out the candles and getting cupcake icing everywhere including up her nose!! :)

These are gifts from Aunt (nurse) Ky Ky. :)

Big brother just thrilled to watch little sister open gifts.

Britni (and Chuck) has updated Rainey's bedroom and it is so cute!! They did a great job. Check out Britni's blog to see more pics of the room.

Fun Weekend

All of our kids and grandkids were home for the weekend. Yea!! The original plan was that Robert and I were going out to see Austin but he had an extended weekend since Tech had fall break Monday and Tuesday so he and a couple of friends decided to come home. The girls came home as well. On Saturday the girls and I went to Countryfest while Robert hauled hay and the boys watched sports on TV. The kids had all requested homemade chicken and dumplings for dinner so that is what I made. We all went to church together on Sunday and then I made them take some pictures while they were all home.

All too soon the weekend came to an end. Britni, Kylie and their families went home Sunday afternoon and Austin left this morning. Already looking forward to having them back home for Thanksgiving!!
